When we started looking at houses we had a small list of must-haves. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a decent size kitchen for me to work in, some area for Maco to have an office, a nice neighborhood for walking, and an outdoor space for me to host…dinners. Not just dinners for my friends and family but work dinners. Supper clubs, dinner parties, private dinners, pop-ups, whatever you want to call them. I wanted to start hosting dinners as a way to bring people together, obsessed over all the fun details that go into events, and start cooking for people again.
This has been a goal of mine since Marcella Cooking Stuff started in Kansas City. Weekly I would stand out on our deck looking into the woods and down at the patio thinking about how beautiful a dinner party would be. It never happened out there but when we decided to move, I became one step closer to bringing this idea to life.
When my realtor opened the accordion doors I knew immediately that this house was perfect. I was standing at the island in the kitchen looking out to the deck and off into the canyon. Same same but different than the vision I once had at our old house. There are a million projects we would like to have done to have things “perfect” but I’m not waiting any longer. Right now is a great time to get together and have dinner!
So if you have ever been scrolling my newsletter and thought “I wish she could just make that for me…” your dreams are about to become reality.
Say hello to BACKYARD. A four-part dinner series celebrating the best parts of summer. My dream supper club. Each dinner will have a different menu composed of 6(ish) dishes cooked by me, mostly over fire. You know, my favorite way to cook! Farmers’ Markets are exploding with produce already and I am excited to highlight what’s ripe, fresh, and juicy. Each meal will include a Marco cocktail and have the option to add a wine pairing. Doesn’t this sound fun?
These dinners will be small with only 12 seats available and hosted out on our deck. Snag two tickets and bring a friend, grab a few and come as a group, or come alone and make some new friends. I’ll set the mood and do all the cooking, your job is to have a good time.
The summer dinner series will be held on:
June 17th
July 22nd
August 19th
September 9th
Tickets for June 17th go live this Monday, May 29th. An email will go out and I’ll share the link on my Instagram. Add your email to the list below for early access to tickets the day before.
I’m exploding with excitement and ready to connect IRL. Things have felt a little stale for me and since directing my energy on this project, I have been brought back to life in a sense. From menu planning, testing dishes, thrifting utensils, color schemes, florals…all of the details. I love it all and can’t wait to start this new journey.
Reply, comment, or DM with any questions you have, and I hope to see you there!
Could you do me one favor? Could you tell a friend who might want to come?! I would be forever grateful for your help in spreading the word. 💚
Do you subscribe to Kitchen Projects? You should. I took one look at this mango custard tart and needed to have it. My next baking project will be this recipe.
The QR-Code Menu Is Being Shown the Door – As someone who is constantly trying to use her phone less, I am very happy about this. I love the designs of menus and the physicality of holding one in your hand. Even better, taking one home after a special dinner.
You’ve Gotta Make Your Own Noodles – Even if you don’t plan to make any noodles, check out this interactive guide from Bon Appetit. It is great to scroll through and has so much to learn about noodles.
How to Freeze Pretty Much Anything – Oh how I miss my deep freezer.
Really neat. I had never heard of this bread.
Bodega Park – Chopped cheese? In California?! Yep, I had one at Bodega Park along with the Aji Chicken Breakfast Burrito and a Turkey Fontina Sandwich. All three were excellent and I’m excited to go back.
A calendar clock that you click each day to change the date. It’s cool and a nice addition to your morning routine, just saying!
How FUN!
