This week I did an “everything I eat in a day” on my Instagram story. Someone asked me to do this a long time ago but I felt like no one cared back then. Monday I woke up in a sassy mood wanting attention and decided to do it. To my surprise, a lot of people were into it and I was chit-chatting with followers all day.
Truthfully I wasn’t that surprised. I’m a huge internet sleuth and love being nosey. We all love being nosey. I know who is nosey and watches my stuff because I’m nosey about my analytics and I see the same names all the time. On Instagram, there are two communities: the ones who talk to you and the ones who watch you. And all the people I expected to engage in my “what I eat in a day” engaged.
An old friend, who is in the culinary world too, sent me the message above. I audibly laughed when I read it. I haven’t fallen down the Emily Mariko rabbit hole but I know all about it. How could you not, she’s everywhere. I did a little dive into her videos after that message to see what she’s about.
She’s a cute girl living in LA documenting her life. That’s literally it. She goes to the farmers market, gets iced coffee, cooks her meals…that’s it. But I will admit, she’s enjoyable and easy to watch. I think that’s why everyone is watching her.
When I got that message I wanted to respond and say “I just spent the last 3 days in pajamas, I’m normal” because my day-to-day is very normal and I did actually wear PJs all day every day while Marco was out of town. I showed everyone my giant pimple this week because I couldn’t bother covering it up with makeup. Instagram is a fuckery of fakeness. Sweatpants and pimples happen, who cares. I just wish more people showed their real selves.
Instagram stories are my preferred method of sharing because of their impermanence. I don’t have to edit or try super hard. I’m able to quickly share throughout my day and if it’s not great, it is gone in 24 hours.
This week I am (finally) lasering the hyperpigmentation off my face. Everyone keeps asking if I am going to hide it. Hell no I’m not! I’m going to share the whole process and by the time my dead flaky skin falls off, the Instagram stories will be gone too. I can’t be perfect like Emily Mariko, so I’m just being me.
More on the obsession over Emily, here. Keep an eye out for my dead flaky skin 😉.

Check Emily Mariko out for yourself. I’m impressed with her fancy-ass zoodler.
Places I ate
I’m declaring these fries the best fries in KC. They are from Torn Label Brewery, fried in beef tallow, and unbeatably crunchy. 15/10
AND they have a long list of house made sauces. The curry ketchup is out of this world.
Thing Everybody Needs
Part of my “everything I eat in a day” was my morning drinks. Lots of Qs about the adaptogen powder I drink. I am a fan of Four Sigmatic’s Balance blend. Adaptogens help the adrenals function and can help improve sleep, stress, hormones, immunity, etc. Check out this book for more details.
