Two weeks ago I wrote about how Marco and I were planning to move into the guest studio with my mom when we get to LA. The very small window to find a new house to move right into after making the drive had passed. We had found a house we loved, made an offer, and were outbid by another buyer. Mentally we were preparing for our plan b. Well, last Wednesday we got a very exciting and unexpected call. The buyers that outbid us backed out and the seller wanted to know if we were still interested in the house…
I’m sorry…WHAT?!!!!
It felt like I was in a dream hearing that news. When we saw it the first time Marco and I knew it was the one. It was the same feeling we had when we walked into our KC home. This house in LA is a cute mid-century home that has been meticulously updated. It’s down the street from my dad in a quiet hilly neighborhood. Large windows with tons of natural light, a beautiful kitchen for me, and a yard for Marco to landscape. It checked almost every box and we wanted it! We acted fast and were the first people to submit an offer but we knew someone with a bigger budget could swoop right in and offer something that we couldn’t compete with. That’s exactly what happened.
During this house-hunting process, I have been very calm knowing that we will end up exactly where we are supposed to be. Of course, I was disappointed when I heard they initially accepted someone else’s offer but I knew it meant we just had to keep looking. I had a gut feeling that this house was the one and it feels very surreal to be moving forward with it.
This whole process had brought tons of ups and downs but after seeing it again during inspections this past week I am nothing but excited. My dad rode his motorcycle over to check it out and hearing his excitement for this “cute little house” was a little stamp of approval I didn’t know I needed. The next day my mom was able to see the inside and she told me how much she loved it probably 35 times.
With a clear destination, Marco and I are both ready to get going. The boxes are packed, our mail has been forwarded, and the furniture has been sold.
One thing we will be leaving behind is Marco’s pet snake, Pyro. She is a 21-year-old corn snake that Marco’s dad got him in 4th grade. Snakes live 30 years, by the way, never get your kid one. I love all animals and have always been fine with Pyro. From the beginning Marco has always known the deal, it’s his snake and he has to do all of her care. She is pretty low maintenance but her tank takes up a lot of space and we are downsizing with this move.
After going to college with him, moving in with us, then moving across the country, Pyro has a new home here in KC. She is with a wonderful woman who rescues reptiles and is keeping her as her own pet. Hopefully, she will get to live another 10 years and get more attention than we were able to give her.
I can’t believe I am about to say this but I cried when she left! After 8 years of seeing her little face in that tank daily, I became somewhat attached to her. I’ll miss saying hello to her while I do the laundry. That’s where she lived…in the laundry room.
This week we make the two-day drive and we will arrive in LA next weekend. Talk to you then!!
P.S. Make the Roasted Cherry Tomato Pasta recipe below this week. It’s easy and freaking tasty! Tomatoes won’t be in season for much longer so get ‘em while they’re good.

Watch for an instant serotonin boost.
Both of these dishes from Caffetteria look kind of lackluster but I was pleasantly surprised by how good they tasted. I had the Thai Chicken Salad and Marco had the Chicken Larb Bowl after signing our closing paperwork Friday. An excellent lunch to celebrate!
I took a ginormous crinkle cookie home with me and it was a solid 10 as well. I wish we ate here more!!
I know film cameras are having a moment right now but I am forever a fan of the Polaroid. By Polaroid, I really mean the Instax Mini. I have hundreds of them framed in our home. From the time I went to San Francisco to visit the culinary school I would later go to, many many parties in our early 20s, and even from our wedding! There is something special about the one single photo you get right there at that moment. You need one fo sho!
More on the lobster that was rescued from Red Lobster lol.
