Marco is back with another fun and easy cocktail for you guys today! I’m sending out this newsletter and then we are headed to the airport and off to France. Nothing better than a fun celebratory cocktail recipe for a day like today. I’m keeping it short and handing it over to Marco to give you all the details…
Something that we have always enjoyed is throwing parties, especially on holidays like the 4th and New Year’s. And that’s exactly what we did on our first NYE in our new home in Kansas City to send off 2019. One of my favorite things to do for every party we host is to have a signature cocktail. An all-time favorite is our variations of Vodka Lemonade served on the 4th of July but for NYE we wanted to change it up and we made a rum, pineapple, yellow chartreuse concoction that I found online. Since then, we have been sitting on a bottle of Yellow Chartreuse, not really knowing what to do with it. It’s been on the top of my mind to try and find a way for us to use it in a cocktail because it has a unique flavor that packs an awesome floral punch. The complex flavor comes from the 130 plants, flowers, bark, roots, and spices that are used to make it. It’s great on its own but adds true depth to any cocktail it’s in.
The first idea that came to mind was to create some version of a lemon drop. There was a period in our life, maybe around 2016 or 2017, when Marcella was on a lemon drop kick. She’d get them all the time when we went out with friends. Something about the lemon drop seemed really appealing, especially as we welcome in spring. But the one thing about lemon drops is that virtually every recipe online is same same but different. My goal was to make a spin on the classic lemon drop but make it more unique, so I landed on recreating a lime drop. Both use triple sec or orange liqueur and are served generally as a martini. So, I subbed out orange liqueur and brought in that yellow chartreuse from the cabinet and was very pleased with the results. After some tinkering with ratios, I landed on a solid cocktail, my version of the Lime Drop. Instead of serving it as a martini, I’m serving it on the rocks. It’s a very simple recipe to make and something that tastes dang good. If you want to kick up the floral notes, replace the vodka with your favorite floral gin. Marcella can’t decide which one she likes more. Try both and let us know in the comments which you prefer! Santé!
